Join us for Lha Bab Duchen, one of the 4 Buddhist Holy days which celebrates the return of Shakyamuni Buddha to Earth from the Heaven of the Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsha). The Buddha spent three months in the Heaven of the Thirty-Three teaching the Dharma to celestial beings and his mother, Queen Mayadevi, to repay her kindness. Accompanied by the gods Indra and Brahma, he descended back to Earth using a special triple staircase made of gold, crystal, and precious stones. It is considered a "Buddha Multiplying Day" where the karmic results of virtuous or non-virtuous actions are multiplied by more than 100,000 times.

On this precious holy date, it is also the celebration of Drikung Kyabgon Chuntsang’s birthday.

The Buddha's descent on the celestial ladder is considered one of the Eight Great Events in the Life of the Buddha.
