ONLINE ONLY. Lopon Dorje Khandro (Dr. Lourdes Arguelles )will be teaching on the Fourth Paramita Perfection of Perseverance.
This Perseverance Paramita finds its expression in the Bodhisattva mind that finds joy in creating virtue in the context of internal and external obstacles. The Perseverance Paramita is known by various names such as the Paramita of Fortitude, Energy, and Joyful and Compassionate Enthusiam. Its opposite is laziness.
In this session, Lopon-la will focus her teaching on different types of perseverance such as armor- like perseverance, the perseverance of gathering virtue and the perseverance of working for the welfare of others. She will also focus on practice -based ways of overcoming different types of laziness (e.g. procrastination, attachment to wordly affairs, discouragement, and exhaustion).
Before the teaching session. Lopon-la will lead us in a brief meditative exercise based on traditional Buddhist teachings and the Western scientific perpective of Polyvagal Theory, a scientific perspective that informs the development of self compassion and can strengthen our perseverance . After the session , she will lead us in a practice of Compassionate Bresthing , a practice developed by the contemporary Buddhist teachers Kristin Neff and Chris Germer. This practice is intended to help us get used to breathing in and out positive feelings including happiness. This practice has been effective in facilitating the compassionate practice of Tonglen (sending and taking) which involves breathing in the suffering of others and breathing out our happiness and other positive feelings and resources.,.. .
In a separate Zoom, Fanny Ryzeman will be translating the session into the Spanish.
